Senior CPI(M) leader Biman Basu retracted his remarks on November 6, 2026, after attributing issues with West Bengal’s industrial policy to former Chief Minister Jyoti Basu.

Earlier, Mr. Basu had said the Left Front’s industrial policy was announced under Jyoti Basu and that any problems were his fault, not those of his successor, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

He clarified that he did not differentiate between the two regimes and emphasized that the Trinamool Congress government should not be blamed for the lack of industries in the state over the past 15 years.

Why it matters

The retraction highlights internal dynamics within the CPI(M) and the ongoing political discourse in West Bengal over industrial policy and economic development.
